Job Title: Manager or Sr. Manager of BESS Project Development – NYC
Location: Tri-State Region (NYC preferred)
Reports to: Vice President of Development
Position Summary
We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Senior Manager to lead battery energy storage system (BESS) development across our utility scale brownfield projects in New York City. This is an execution-focused role ideal for a self-starter ready to advance a robust portfolio of BESS projects through permitting, interconnection, design, and pre-construction readiness.
You will work cross-functionally with internal teams—including engineering, interconnection, policy, finance, and legal—as well as external stakeholders to ensure projects are technically and commercially viable and fully prepared for construction. This is a high impact role with significant visibility throughout the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full-cycle development of brownfield utility-scale BESS projects (standalone and hybrid) from feasibility to NTP.
- Manage local, state, and federal permitting processes (CEQR, DOB/OTCR, FDNY TM1 experience preferred).
- Conduct site diligence and assess environmental, permitting, and stakeholder risks of development projects and M&A opportunities.
- Coordinate technical design and ensure alignment with interconnection and grid requirements.
- Partner with origination to align projects with offtake opportunities and support RFP submissions.
- Build relationships with landowners, community stakeholders, and permitting agencies.
- Represent Elevate at public hearings, regulatory meetings, and industry events.
- Support development tracking, project reporting, project budgets, and best practices implementation.
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Energy, Land Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years’ experience developing utility-scale BESS, preferably in NYISO, Brownfield experience a plus.
- Experience leading projects through the interconnection process.
- Ability to interpret technical studies, grid analyses, and financial models.
- Proven project management skills with ability to oversee multiple workstreams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in remote, cross-functional environments.
- Willing to travel up to 40% of the time.
